Installing turn signals, the off-road way

PARTS LIST

1. One 3-way sand sealed switch on-off-on.
2. Two amber clearance lights.
3. Two red brake/turn signal lights.
4. One two prong flasher relay.
5. Lots of wire, 16 or 18 guage will work.
6. Whatever you want to use to connect two pieces of wire together (electrical tape, solderless terminals, solder, etc)

When I did this I started with the 3-way switch. First you might be asking yourself "self, why does this crazy fool say to use a sealed switch" and my answer is "you don't drive your baja in the sand do you". Sand gets everywhere and it is your worst enemy, it will get inside that non-sealed switch and grind it up until it doesn't work anymore. Now find a good place inside of your baja to mount a turn signal switch. Mine is just left of the steering wheel. Drill the correct size hole that the switch will fit in into your dash and install the switch only finger tight. Now find a good place on the front of the bug to mount the two amber clearance lights (one on the top of each fender works fine). There are two wires coming out of the clearance lights, one ground, the other goes to the bulb. First run the ground wire of each clearance light to a good ground. Next run the drivers side clearance light wire to the left prong of the three-way switch. The passenger's side clearance light goes to the right prong of the three-way switch. Easy so far right. Now for the back, mount the two red brake/turn signal lights in the back of the bug (mine are on the finders but I have seen them mounted in a number of places). Most brake/turn signal lights have three wires coming out of them. One is going to be a ground, one a brake light, and one a turn signal light. First Run both the ground wires to a good ground. Second run the drivers side turn signal wire to the left prong of the three-way switch. Now run the passengers side turn signal wire to the right prong of the three-way switch. The brake wires of the brake/turn signal lights go to the switch on the master cylinder. That's so when you push the brakes the lights light up. Now for the tricky part, connecting the power. Run a power wire from the fuse box to the two-prong flasher. Connect the wire to one of the prongs. Now run a wire from the other prong to the middle prong of the three-way flasher. TA DA, turn signals the baja way. If you need some more help (I can't understand why, my directions are great) I have included a little drawing I made to help with running the wires.
