It all started in the summer of 97. My bud Dusty Fouch was looking for a car. Well one day someone brought an Automobile Trader to work and guess what, in that book was a 1969 VW Baja Bug for sale. If I remember right Dusty made the phone call right than and we went to look at it that night. I know you're not supposed to buy a car at night but it looked like it was in good shape. We got in, went around the block and Dusty was sold. Dusty gave him an offer of I think $750 and the next day we came back to pick it up. Little did I know that Dusty couldn't drive a stick shift so within a mile I was driving the bug back to base. I loved driving the little thing. It had a little pep to it and you could really get that small body to fit anywhere. That is when I knew that someday I would have one for off-roading. Well, Dusty wanted to fix it up but after awhile he lost interest so there it sat in his parking lot for about 6 months. It would come up in our conversations now and then about fixing it but nothing was ever done. One day Dusty came to me and said the bug was sold. The guy was supposed to give a couple of bucks a month as long as he didn't take until Christmas to pay it off. Christmas came and went and dusty only got $250 dollars out of the guy. One day I talked Dusty into trying to fix the bug again and he went and took the keys from the guy. We went outside to start it and the bug was dead. It hasn't run since than. As of late I have been having an urge to sell my truck and buy a jeep or any other kind of off-road vehicle. It got so bad that I was about to sell my truck when I thought of Dustys bug just sitting there in the parking lot not doing anything. Because of the fact that Dusty was in Hungary at the time it was kind of hard working out a deal with him. We started to communicate with a program called ICQ while he was gone. Finally on August 27th, 1998 I told him that I wanted it and I asked him how much. He replied $200, I said sold. Now I get to keep my truck and have an off-road vehicle. Now I just have to wait to get the keys from him. He should get back to the states in September. Can't wait until the keys are mine.
I finally got the keys to the bug about a week after I wrote the above. It took about 5 min to get it running again, ended up being a clogged main jet in the carb. I have had it for about two years now and love it.
